UPCYCLE PROJECT
rerer is a brand that breathes new life into waste materials and scraps, offering unique items that blend into everyday life. From an upcycling perspective, they maximize the inherent value of materials and continue to create products that enrich everyday life. In this article, we will introduce rerer's manufacturing philosophy and the thoughts behind it.

rerer's upcycling philosophy and commitment to materials
At rerer, we always value the perspective of "upcycling." We believe that even things that are no longer used or materials that have nowhere to go have life in them, and we think that the essence of craftsmanship is the moment when we see waste materials as "white space" and create new value by adding something to them. By breathing life into something, it changes from being just waste material into something that has some meaning. This is the basis of rerer's product creation.
Material Selection Process
I usually visit sewing factories and craftsmen I know to see the materials in person. Scraps and leather with uneven coloring that would be rejected in mass production are also attractive to rerer. The most important thing to me when selecting materials is whether or not the material speaks to me. I find great joy in the process of being inspired by something I sense in the material and then turning it into a shape.
Adding new value to materials that have already fulfilled their role
When we look for new value in materials that have already fulfilled their purpose, we make use of the material's distortions and individual differences. We believe that imperfection can actually become the material's individuality. Rather than striving for uniformity, we are always exploring how to transform "intentional irregularities" into beauty, and we believe that this process is what makes rerer unique.
Ingenuity in design of upcycled materials
In design, we aim to create products that are in harmony with the material. Generally, the design comes first and then we look for materials that match it, but at rerer, we come across the material and then think about the shape. Each time we create a one-of-a-kind item, which is like nothing else.
Spreading the message of upcycling
The word "sustainable" is becoming more and more popular, but at rerer we value the stories and background behind it. By telling people "this was originally made of this material," we aim to make them feel attached to our products. We believe that having something with a story makes everyday life a little richer.
Possibilities and challenges of upcycling
The possibilities that can be felt through upcycling are enormous, but at the same time, the fun and difficulty of "not being able to make the same thing again" coexist. How do we deliver value that is different from mass production? And I think that uncertainty is what makes rerer unique.
Future materials and ideas
Up until now, I have mainly used leather and cloth, but in the future, I am interested in industrial scraps and local materials. Upcycling is not just about reusing resources, but is part of a "change in thinking." I would like to express this expansion through my products and create items that more people can enjoy.
lastly
We create new value through upcycling and continue to deliver products that make the most of the individuality of the materials. We plan to continue to create even more attractive products by combining different materials and incorporating new ideas. rerer's goal is not just to be eco-friendly, but to add color to everyday life. Don't miss out on the steps we take to make this a reality.
