Upcycling sails project with high school students
From "Learning" to "Action": High School Students Refurbish Yacht Sails
This time, as part of a class to think about upcycling, high school students tried their hand at "cutting a yacht sail."
This is your chance to actually experience the first step in making something.
In the last class, we spent time thinking together about the significance of upcycling, focusing on the themes of [awareness] and [interest].
And now, as a sequel, we'll move on to the next step of turning your thoughts into action.
With the cooperation of Yamada from Kaizu Transportation, we were able to actually touch a yacht's sail and experience the process of cutting it.
It was an opportunity for the students to experience upcycling in a more tangible and real way.
High school students are cutting the yacht sails to be used as upcycled materials.
It was impressive to see them working silently but with a sense of enjoyment even in the hot and humid weather.
Cutting to the specified size while removing the hard parts was much more difficult than I imagined.
Even so, even though they say it's difficult and tiring, they always have a smile on their face.
Through this project, the children seemed to realize the importance of having an interest and the fun of using their hands.
The passion of the teachers and the enthusiasm of the students - a day where I felt the essence of education
Seeing the students working together with their peers and the teachers enthusiastically supporting and guiding them,
I was impressed by the teachers' educational philosophy and the students' enthusiasm.
It was a day that made me realize once again how wonderful Kaizu Meisei High School is, as it is proactively thinking about and taking action in these types of initiatives.
We are really looking forward to the day when we can deliver the finished bags and products to you all as soon as possible!
