This product uses recycled nylon made from discarded car airbags that have been cleaned and dyed. The nylon yarn used in airbags, known as "66 nylon," is characterized by its high mechanical strength, light weight, and resistance to friction. The wrinkles formed when stored in the steering wheel or during the washing process remain in various forms, giving each piece a unique look. We hope you enjoy these individual characteristics.
With many new cars manufactured and sold each year, approximately 3.5 million vehicles are scrapped annually in Japan. While the recycling rate for Japanese automobiles is said to be in the high 90s, airbags and seatbelts, due to their extreme durability and specialized construction, are difficult to repurpose into something else, and unfortunately, many are currently discarded. We hope to contribute, even in a small way, to efforts to reduce waste.
